Left Tank 3

Next comes time to fabricate the tank angle attach brackets.  The details are given on dwg 16A.  I used a bandsaw to make the rough cuts, then finished them with the sander/scotchbrite wheel.  To draw the radius of the attach side, I searched the shop for a circle 2" in diameter (R1 on drawing).  I found that the straitline chalk dispenser was exactly 2", so I used it as a pattern to draw the radius.  I then connected the edges with the radius and cut away.

You then cut the rib side of the angle to match the inside contour of the inner rib.  To do this, I made a paper template and traced the shape around the angle.  It is then clamped and drilled to the rib in 6 places with the reinforcement plate to the inside.  I used double-sided tape and clamps on both pieces to keep them in position prior to drilling.

Next comes time to drill the hole for the access plate cover.  I could not find a dimension anywhere on the plans, but I confirmed that you drill the hole to the ID of the stiffener ring (5.25").  To cut the hole you must use a fly cutter.  It works okay, but you must go very slow, clamp the piece very firmly, and use lots of cutting fluid.
