Elevator (Page 4)

Making the trim tab is basically the same as the elevator tabs.

When making/attaching the trim cable horn, you will have to trim the ends off once they are clecoed in place.  To attach the horns to the skin, it works best to back-rivet.  On the inner-most rivet, I found it worked best to use the c-frame flat set in the rivet gun.  I used a series of 2x4s and sheetmetal to create shims and create clearance to back-rivet the horns.

You then clamp the hinge per the called out dimensions to determine the locations of the mounting holes.  I used a blue sharpie to identify the location on the hinge prior to drilling.  You then must use a large straight-edge to align the trailing edge of the tab with the rest of the elevator.

Although the hinge pin was very tight, it can be chucked up in a cordless drill and "driven" into the hinge.  First attempt at safetying the hinge...I am going to heat this up and redo it, as I was not pleased with the results.

Checking movement up and down of the tab...you will need to slightly bend the lower tab up to provide enough clearance.
